Cardano Launches 2025 Proposal to Drive Blockchain Innovation

Cardano developer Input Output has officially submitted its “Cardano Vision – Work Program 2025” proposal. This strategic document outlines the next major steps for the Cardano blockchain’s long-term advancement. Shared on social media, Input Output confirmed the proposal is now live and open for review by DReps and the oversight committee.

Research and Innovation Lead the Strategy

The proposal forms part of a broader five-year Cardano Vision under Input Output Research (IOR). It emphasizes that Cardano’s future strength lies in continuous research and innovation. Moreover, to support this, the 2025 plan introduces 20 Fundamental Research Streams, which focus on core topics such as Ouroboros, Tokenomics, Hydra, and Interchains.

Additionally, it features six Technology Validation Streams that include Leios, Minotaur, Jolteon Liveness, RSnarks, Anti-grinding, and other key developments. These streams aim to boost Cardano’s scalability, sustainability, and interoperability through a structured, evidence-based approach.

Foundational Research Will Continue

Input Output’s research team will lead the execution of the proposal. Notably, this team played a critical role in building the Cardano blockchain and will now guide its technical progress. The proposal seeks to strengthen Cardano’s position as a leader in blockchain innovation.

Looking ahead, Cardano will operate under full community governance by 2025. In this context, scalability remains a central goal. A new blog post from Input Output introduces Ouroboros Leios—an overhaul of the current Ouroboros Praos consensus mechanism.

Ouroboros Leios: A Scalable Future

Leios aims to dramatically increase Cardano’s scalability and throughput. It introduces a concurrent blockchain structure and parallel processing system that harnesses underused computational and network resources. Unlike Praos, which faces performance bottlenecks due to algorithm design rather than hardware limits, Leios addresses these inefficiencies directly.

By implementing Leios, Cardano can better support decentralized finance (DeFi), large-scale DApp ecosystems, and broader global adoption—all while preserving its core principles of decentralization and security.
