Over the weekend, Cardano’s founder, Charles Hoskinson, hosted a livestream titled “See You on the Other Side,” where he reflected on Cardano’s progress and future direction. He revisited his journey as a leader at Input Output Global (IOG), emphasizing that Cardano had officially reached full decentralization.
Voltaire Era Marks Shift to Community Governance
Hoskinson pointed out that Cardano’s transformation began under the Voltaire governance framework, which launched in the third quarter of 2024. Since then, the project has evolved from a centralized system to one driven entirely by its community. He confirmed that Cardano passed a new constitution through an on-chain ratification process and a constitutional convention, giving the network a robust democratic foundation.

With the new governance model, Cardano now has nearly 1,000 Delegated Representative Entities (DREs). These DREs hold the authority to make key decisions on behalf of the network. Hoskinson noted that this structure shifts the project’s future direction into the hands of the broader community. According to him, this decentralization removes all centralized elements from Cardano’s ecosystem, which aligns with the blockchain’s core mission.
Hoskinson Sees Cardano as a Legacy Project
Hoskinson proudly described Cardano’s decentralization as the pinnacle of his career. He compared the platform’s resilience to Bitcoin, claiming that Cardano is built to endure and “stand the test of time.” Despite this achievement, he made it clear that his mission isn’t over yet. He wants Cardano’s governance to evolve even further, becoming more autonomous and durable.

Toward the end of the livestream, Hoskinson revealed plans for a new journey, one he described as “dangerous.” He hinted that the trip could be life-threatening, which is why he decided to broadcast the stream—just in case he didn’t return. The livestream followed a brief trip to Paris, from which he was still recovering.

Even so, Hoskinson expressed satisfaction with what he and the Cardano community had accomplished. He reiterated that the platform’s decentralization and resilience represented his “life’s work,” and he remains hopeful that the network will continue to thrive, no matter the challenges ahead.
