Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has ignited speculations of a new meme coin with his recent suggestion for the next hard fork name. Given Hoskinson’s significant influence in the Cardano and broader crypto communities, his suggestions often lead to widespread interest and action. Cardano is about to fully implement the Chang hard fork, named after Phil Chang, an early Cardano supporter who passed away two years ago. The Chang hard fork marks the beginning of the Voltaire era, which focuses on enhanced decentralization. As the community anticipates the Chang hard fork, members are already proposing names for the subsequent hard fork. The Valentine hard fork, named for its implementation date on February 14, 2023, followed the Vasil hard fork in September 2022.

With Chang’s implementation imminent, community members have suggested names for the next hard fork. Subsequently, jumping on this trend, Hoskinson humorously suggested naming it after the Tasseled Wobblegong Shark, a unique carpet shark species with distinctive skin flaps around its head, resembling tassels.

Hoskinson’s playful reference to the carpet shark has led to speculations about a potential meme coin launch. Recently, meme coins related to Hoskinson’s pets have gained significant attention. Last month, a meme coin inspired by Hoskinson’s pet pig, NIKE, surged 80,370% in 24 hours after he shared a picture of the animal. Another meme coin, inspired by his pet parrot, suffered a 96% price slump when Hoskinson clarified that the parrot’s name wasn’t Rio, as speculated.

Potential Tasseled Wobblegong Shark Meme Coin

Drawing from these instances, some community members believe a Tasseled Wobblegong Shark (TWS) meme coin might soon emerge. California-based coach Jeff Sutherland has even started a countdown for such a launch.

Despite the current lack of any meme coin named TWS, the possibility of a launch remains high. The Cardano ecosystem has seen its share of successful meme coins, with SNEK being the most notable.
