Shytoshi Kusama, the lead developer of Shiba Inu, has encountered sharp criticism from the SHIB community after revealing plans to elect a “president” for the Shiba Inu ecosystem. This announcement has stirred controversy, particularly after the proposed framework for the transition to what Kusama calls the “SHIB state.”
Many members of the community have taken to X, formerly Twitter, to voice their disapproval. Woofswap, a platform that supports decentralized exchange activities within the SHIB ecosystem, highlighted several negative reactions. Critics argue that electing a president introduces unnecessary political dynamics that could divide rather than unite the community. Woofswap urged Kusama to focus on infrastructure, rebuilding trust, and fulfilling SHIB’s roadmap instead of political moves.
If I were Shytoshi, here’s how I’d work to rebuild community trust:

1. Cancel the election—it’s just another source of conflict and chaos.
2. Declare that $SHIB no longer needs a leader or president, and clarify that @Shibtoken is not the official X account for Shib—Put an end… pic.twitter.com/if2Ekcy7av
Some Call for Leadership Change
Interestingly, not all feedback has dismissed the idea of an election. A user named Klaus Menzz suggested that holding an election might actually restore faith within the SHIB community. Menzz said many no longer trust Kusama and believe a new, transparent leader could help restore confidence.

Despite this, Woofswap countered Menzz’s opinion by urging the team to study other successful blockchain projects. The platform cited ApeCoin for its structured DAO governance and praised CZ’s efforts with BNB Chain for scaling layer-2 ecosystems efficiently. Woofswap emphasized that rational strategies, not emotional decisions, should guide SHIB’s development.
SHIB Developers Respond to Backlash
In response to the mounting criticism, Kaal Dhairya, another lead SHIB developer, thanked the community for its candid feedback. He clarified that the DAO is not yet fully functional and confirmed that the team is actively working on features that will allow the community to debate and vote on proposals transparently.
We appreciate everyone’s valuable feedback regarding the elections—we will be sharing detailed information soon. Please note that the DAO is not yet fully operational, currently supporting only one voting strategy. We are actively working to introduce additional features shortly,…

Meanwhile, Lucie, SHIB’s marketing lead, defended the move by revealing that both the team and community have waited two years to reach this milestone. Despite the opposition, she implied that the proposal aligns with long-term goals for decentralization and growth.

As the debate continues, it’s clear that the SHIB community remains divided over the concept of a “president.” The wider crypto industry is now watching to see how Shiba Inu’s leadership handles internal dissent and whether the project can maintain unity moving forward.
